Small Ways to Make Self-Care Part of Your Fall Routine
There’s something about fall that always seems to bring a change in pace.
Summer winds down, schedules fill back up, the days start getting shorter, and before you know it, the holiday season is right around the corner. It can be really easy to put yourself at the bottom of the list and tell yourself you'll make time for self-care when things slow down.
But what if they don't?
Self-care doesn't have to mean clearing an entire afternoon or completely changing your routine. Sometimes, the small things you do consistently are the things that make the biggest difference.
Here are a few simple ways to make a little more room for yourself this fall.
Put Something on the Calendar for You
We schedule meetings, appointments, school events, practices, dinners, and everything else that needs to happen. Why not schedule something you're actually looking forward to?
Maybe that's a massage once a month. Maybe it's finally making time for a facial. Maybe it's simply blocking off an evening when you don't make plans.
When you put time for yourself on the calendar, it becomes something you're more likely to protect instead of something you'll get to if you have time.
Give Your Skin a Little Seasonal Attention
As the weather changes, your skin may start feeling different too. Cooler temperatures, indoor heating, and changes in humidity can leave skin feeling drier or in need of a little extra hydration.
Fall is a great time to check in with your skincare routine. You don't necessarily need ten new products. Sometimes it's as simple as making sure you're cleansing consistently, using the right moisturizer for your skin, and paying attention to what your skin is telling you.
And if you're not sure what it needs, that's something we can talk about during your next facial.
Take the Short Version
One of the biggest reasons people put off self-care is simple: there isn't enough time.
But it doesn't always have to be the full version.
September's Rosée Glow has been a great reminder of that. A focused 30-minute facial can still give you time to pause while giving your skin some much-needed attention.
The same idea works outside the spa, too. Ten quiet minutes with your coffee counts. A short walk counts. Going to bed a little earlier counts.
Self-care doesn't only count when you have hours to devote to it.
Pay Attention to What Your Body Is Asking For
Sometimes we get so used to being busy that we stop noticing how we're actually feeling.
Are your shoulders constantly tight? Have you been clenching your jaw? Does your skin feel dry or irritated? Are you exhausted?
Those little signals are worth paying attention to.
You don't have to wait until you're completely burned out to take care of yourself. In fact, I'd much rather see you before you reach that point.
Make It Something You Actually Enjoy
Your version of self-care doesn't have to look like anyone else's.
Maybe it's a massage. Maybe it's skincare. Maybe it's reading for twenty minutes, taking a long shower, going for a walk, watching football all afternoon, or saying no to something you really don't want to do.
The point isn't to create another thing you're supposed to be doing.
It's to find small ways to take care of yourself that actually make you feel good.
A New Season Is a Good Time to Check In
Fall doesn't have to mean immediately shifting into holiday survival mode.
Before October gets underway, take a minute and ask yourself: What would make this season feel a little better?
Maybe you need more rest. Maybe you need some quiet. Maybe your skin needs a reset. Maybe your shoulders are telling you it's definitely time for a massage.
Whatever it is, you don't have to overhaul your life to make room for yourself.
Start small.
