Want Better Waxing Results? Start With Healthy Skin
When we talk about waxing, most people focus on one thing: removing unwanted hair.
But a great waxing experience is about more than smooth skin when you leave your appointment. How you care for your skin before and after waxing can make a big difference in how your skin looks, feels, and responds.
A little preparation and the right aftercare can help keep your skin feeling comfortable and looking its best between appointments.
Here are a few things to keep in mind before your next wax.
1. Give Your Hair Time to Grow
It can be tempting to grab a razor when you start seeing a little regrowth, especially between waxing appointments.
Try to resist!
Wax needs enough hair to grip effectively. Shaving between appointments interrupts the growth cycle and can make it harder to maintain consistent waxing results.
If you're unsure whether you have enough growth before your appointment, we're always happy to help.
2. Pay Attention to Your Skin Before Your Appointment
Healthy skin makes for a better waxing experience.
In the days leading up to your appointment, keep your skin clean and moisturized. If the area you're having waxed is sunburned, irritated, or otherwise compromised, let us know before your appointment.
On the day of your wax, skip heavy lotions or oils on the area being treated.
And remember, communication is important. If you've started using new skincare products or medications, let us know. Some products can make the skin more sensitive to waxing.
3. Give Your Skin 24 Hours to Recover
Freshly waxed skin deserves a little breathing room.
For the first 24 hours after waxing, we recommend avoiding:
Exercise
Excessive heat
Direct sun exposure
Tight clothing
Why? Your skin may be temporarily more sensitive following a wax. Sweat, heat, friction, and sun exposure can all contribute to irritation.
Think of those first 24 hours as a chance to let your skin settle.
4. Choose Comfortable, Breathable Clothing
What you wear after waxing matters, especially after a bikini or Brazilian wax.
Loose-fitting clothing can help reduce friction against freshly waxed skin. We also recommend cotton underwear because it's breathable and allows the area a little more airflow while the skin settles.
Your favorite tight leggings can wait until tomorrow.
5. Keep Your Skin Clean and Moisturized
Good aftercare doesn't stop after the first 24 hours.
Keeping the skin clean and moisturized is an important part of maintaining healthy-looking skin between waxing appointments.
At DK Spa, we recommend Phytomer Seaweed Soap as part of your waxing aftercare routine. It's an easy way to incorporate thoughtful skin care into your everyday routine while keeping freshly waxed areas clean.
Follow cleansing with a moisturizer appropriate for your skin to help keep it feeling soft and comfortable.
Smooth Skin Is Healthy Skin
Waxing may remove the hair, but caring for the skin underneath is just as important.
A few simple choices before and after your appointment can help reduce irritation, support your skin, and keep that smooth feeling going long after you leave the spa.
And if you're ever unsure about what to use or how to care for your skin between appointments, ask us. Personalized aftercare is part of taking care of you.
